GURRUMUL TOPS CULTURE POWER LIST

GURRUMUL Yunupingu has topped a list of Australia's most powerful cultural figures.

Gurrumul took the top spot on The Australian Financial Review's Cultural Power List, followed by the Tasmanian MONA FOMA arts festival owner, David Walsh, at number two."In an industry filled with ersatz performers who flame out as quickly as it takes to download an MP3, Yunupingu has quietly become an enduring international phenomenon," the newspaper said. Gurrumul's latest project was the official launch of the Gurrumul Yunupingu Foundation, which will continue a legacy of Aboriginal knowledge, achievement and opportunity. The Australian Financial Review said it ranked Walsh second because MONA had spiced up Tasmania's tourist offering, with interstate visitors to Hobart up by 40 per cent.
